Springfield – Ralph W. Blissett, 69, of Springfield, died at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice.

 

Ralph was born May 15, 1942 in Springfield, the son of John E. and Effie Bohnenberger Blissett.

 

Ralph graduated from Lanphier High School in 1961. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1962 – 1966. After being discharged from the military, he went on to work in various positions at Sangamo Electric from 1967 until 1975. In April of 1975 Ralph joined Butler Funeral Homes as the Building and Grounds Maintenance Director where he was still currently employed. He was a member and Deacon at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield and drove the church van. He had a strong church family who will miss him.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, David and John Blissett, and three sisters, Margaret Louise Blissett, JoAnn Jacobs, and Rose Robinson.

 

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Donna (Husband, Bob) Gardiner of Sherman; a brother, Allen Blissett of Virginia, several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and several friends.

 

Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 North 7^th Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16^th, 2011 at Third Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Brent Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
