Janet Sue Young (Asche)

Janet Sue Asche, age 77, of Kearney, died Thursday, March 12, 2020 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Barone officiating. Burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Holy Cross Quilters, or to the Peterson Senior Center. Janet was born February 4, 1943 in Springfield, Illinois to Robert and June (Green) Young. She graduated from Lanphier High School and then graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield. Janet married James M. Asche on December 11, 1965 in Springfield, Illinois. To this union were born two children, Michael and Jennifer. Janet worked as a Registered Nurse at Mount Carmel, CHI Home Health and Hospice and was Director of Nursing at Mother Hull Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Her faith was very important to her. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran  Church in Springfield, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney. She was on the Board of Parish Life as a chairwoman; Lutheran Women’s Missionary League as a secretary, vice president and president; and the Holy Cross Quilters. Janet enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, attending sporting events, and visiting her grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years James Asche of Kearney; daughter Jennifer (Ruben) Bustamante of Lubbock, Texas; son Michael (Kathy) Asche of Lewisburg, PA; and five grandchildren, Derek Asche, Lauren Asche, Olivia Asche, Collin Bustamante, and Jace Bustamante.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Delores Toland.

Janet  & her family lived next door to ours on 6th St. We shared many girlhood secrets! One New Years Eve she, Connie Cull & I celebrated my birthday together. Still have those snapshots...in ski pajamas! Rest easy.
