Judith “Judy” Kay Swaggerty, 80, of Springfield, died at 12:07 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Villa East- Sherman.

Judy was born on June 27, 1943, in the old Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL, to Jay Denton, Jr. and Edith Jones. She married Raymond L. Swaggerty on November 8, 1974, in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2011.

She worked for Horace Mann Insurance Company as an adjuster for 38 years until 2001. She then worked part- time for Department of Revenue until her retirement in 2008. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Judy was also preceded in death by her daughter, Richelle Strode; parents; and sisters, Eleanor Denton and Delores Brawner.

She is survived by her son, Julius Lee (Terri) Swaggerty; daughters, Sheila R. (John) Strode and Angela J. Swaggerty; sister, Shirley Jones; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Gary (Mary) Swaggerty and Earl (Mari) Swaggerty; sister-in-law, Marcy Swaggerty; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Judy may be made to the American Cancer Society.
