Springfield - Penny C. Shiffer VanderDrift, 63, of Springfield died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at her home.

She was born Aug. 11, 1942, in Springfield, the daughter of Charles Andrew and Ethel Renfrow Shiffer.  She married Thomas J. VanderDrift in 1993; he died in 1997.

Mrs. VanderDrift was a self-employed child-care provider.  She was a member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors: son, James DeSoto of Springfield; two daughters, Michelle (husband, Scott) Hollis of Pleasant Plains and Andrea (husband, Angelo) Zaffiri of Springfield; two stepsons, Tom (wife Beth) VanderDrift of Springfield and Peter VanderDrift of Peoria; two stepdaughters, Mary Frances (husband, Mark) Carvill of Carbondale and Debbie (husband, Chris) Asay of Wyoming; five grandchildren, three sisters, Judith (husband, Bruce) Brown-Lowman, Sandra Gaffigan and Andrea (husband, Robert) Frantz all of Springfield; five brothers, Charles "Chuck" Andrew Jr., Robert, Mike (wife, Carrie) and Kevin Shiffer, all of Springfield, and John (wife, Mary Kay) Shiffer of Bloomington; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
