William was a graduate of Illinois State University and a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Riverton, Illinois. Outside of work, he was an avid car enthusiast, boater, and cyclist. He took special pleasure in outsmarting telemarketers and never missed an opportunity for a well-timed prank.
