Springfield - Robert W. Williams "Curly" 65, of Springfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the home of his daughter, with family by his side.

One of 12 children, he was born on Nov. 10, 1942, in Springfield, the son of Lonnie Delmar Williams and Dorothy Margaret (Martin) Williams.  He married Nancy L. Burnside on Sept. 5, 1964.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Lonnie D. Williams and Thomas H. Williams.

He is survived by four daughters, Sheryl L. (husband, Tom) Lewis, Robin R. (husband, Greg) Jacaway and Brenda L. (husband, Vernon) Skenadore; brothers and sisters, Betty Starkweather of Florida, Charles (wife, Joann) Williams and Mary (husband, Frank) Longoria, all of California, Cletta Craddock of Texas, Donnie Williams and Gaylon (wife, Jeri) Williams, all of Springfield, Deanie (husband, John) Kinsel of Rochester; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

He was lovingly known as "Grandpa Curly" and adored six grandchildren, Krista, Kayla, Erin, Katherine, Vernon II and Sean.

As a devoted husband and father, he enjoyed his family, playing solitaire, Cubs baseball, fishing and NASCAR racing.  He attended Lanphier High School and was proud to have served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a member of the VFW Post 10302.  Mr. Williams worked as an auto mechanic for Standard Oil/Amoco and Southard Auto Service for 30 ears.  He retired from Tuffy Auto Service in 2007.  He leaves lessons of love, patience, kindness and loyalty to family and friends.  In recent years he was accepted into spiritual friendship and loved many friends at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.

Memorials to Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church and the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis.  Because of the faith, prayers and excellent medical care he was able to enjoy a blessed year.

Mermorial service held Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 S. Douglas Ave., Springfield, the Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.  A private military burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
